REMOTE CONTROL SM0AGP
Following installation has made it possible to remote control my amateur radio equipment in our summerhous in Herresta.
My tranceivers are mainly ICOM-rigs; I exemplify here with the IC-746.
In order to start and stop the 12 volt supply in Herresta I have installed a Web-Switch 1216H there with 5 different relays. That makes it possible to,
via Internet, start the IC-746 and the remote "radio-box", the power amplifier(400 w) and the vhf/uhf-rig which I use as an alternativ
for the lf connection between Herresta and Huddinge (75 km distance).
The main control of the IC-746 is done with the free of charge remote control program Ham Radio Deluxe downloaded to the PC in Huddinge.
To connect between the PC in Huddinge and the IC-746 in Herresta I use a pair of microbit RRC 1258MarkII boxes. The speech-quality is excellent,
it has ports for all possible needs (HRD, rotorcontroll) and a built in electronic bug i the command-box which make CW very handy.
Internet is used to interconnect the two boxes. In the summerhouse in Herresta I have a mobile broadband subscibtion from the internet-
operator 3. 199.- SEK/month for maximum 20 GB/month. The speed is 4-5 Mb home and 1 Mb out. The Huawei 3G-modem E1820 from 3 is inserted in a
Dowado 3GN W-lan router with 4 ethernet ports. The 1 GB subscription for 99.- SEK/month wasn't enough.
In my home in Huddinge I have a fixed Internet access from the internet-operator ComHem with 1Mb home and 200 kb out. In order to be independent of
changes in the IP-addres both are using the free of charge DynDNS. Both the router and the Web-switch are equipped with a client for this service which
informs DynDNS of actual ip-address to Herresta.
The described bandwithes is enough for acceptable speech-quality, but the signalstrength from the 3-basestation in Herresta is low, so I have installed a
3G-beam on a mast outside my house connected to the modem with a coaxial kable and an inductive coupling. But still there are some very short (ms)
disconnections in the lf from Herresta to Huddinge. Thats the reason for the alternativ routing via VHF/UHF.
In order to remote control my antenna-rotor I use the Easy-Rotor-Control, a kit from Ing.-Büro E.Alba de Schmidt. It interfaces
between my CDR HAM-M rotor and a COM-port on the PC. But it is very universal and fits almost every rotator and can be
operated from the rotor-program integrated in HRD. The documentation that comes with the kit is comprehensive and the software is excellent.
